WWD: TYNE DALY, CAROLYN TASTAD, STEPHANIE GEORGE HONORED AT THE WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS GALA
Was this the official Tony Awards after party?
No. But that’s the type of energy that was whirling through The Edison Ballroom in New York City where the Women’s Project Theater hosted the 30th annual Women of Achievement Awards Gala on Monday evening. The theater company develops, produces and promotes the work of female theater artists.
“I’m so honored to be here honoring these women, particularly after last night’s awards,” said actress Bebe Neuwirth, who hosted the gala.
Actress Amanda Seyfried presented an award to Proctor & Gamble’s North American president Carolyn Tastad, who also touched on her experience as a woman climbing the ranks at work.
“I’m lucky to work for P&G where half of our managers and board members are women. At P&G women are celebrated,” Tastad. “I believe in the power of women.”
Actress Marlo Thomas presented Stephanie George, Fairchild Fashion Media’s president, with an award for her 30-year career in publishing and helping women along the way.
“There is a place in hell for women who don’t support other women. So there must be a special place in heaven for women who help women. And if there is, Stephanie George should have a front-row seat,” said Thomas, who met George when she worked at Time Inc.
“That’s my That Girl,” said George, who went on to speak about female inequality.
“I ran into people who didn’t support women in my 30 years of publishing, but I proved that women can rise to the top and should be paid equally,” George said. “We got a little bit of recognition, we just need more of it.”
